Substack

Read newsletters and follow independent writers

Substack is a News & Magazines app for reading publications from writers and creators, including newsletters and longer-form posts. It suits readers who want to follow specific voices or explore writing on subjects such as news, politics, finance and culture. Instead of browsing a single general news feed, you can build a reading list around the publications and people that interest you.

More than written posts

Alongside reading, Substack brings creator content in audio and video formats into the app. Its Notes feature offers a way to discover and engage with posts beyond the publications you already follow. The mix makes the app useful both for keeping up with subscriptions and for finding new writers, though what you see depends on the creators and publications you choose to follow.

Following and supporting publications

Readers can subscribe to publications, and some writers offer paid subscriptions for their work. This gives you a way to keep new posts from selected creators together and, where available, support their publishing directly. The range of subjects and formats varies by publication, so the app is best understood as a place to access creator-led writing and media rather than a single editorial source.
